Calculate frame size
The right size of your hardtail mountain-bike:
The Inside leg length is multiplied by 0.226 and thus you get the theoretical value of the frame size in inch. One inch equals 2.54 cm.
If the theoretical value is in-between two sizes, the following rule of thumb can be applied:
- choose the smaller size when riding athletically
- choose the larger size when riding tour-orientated
How to determine your Inside leg length:
The Inside leg length or stride height is the length of the inside of the leg. The most accurate way to measure your stride length is to use a spirit level and a tape measure or folding rule. Stand barefoot on a flat surface, clamp the spirit level horizontally between your legs and measure the distance from the upper edge of the spirit level to the ground. This value corresponds to your stride length.
Alternatively, you can also determine your frame height based on your height, see the table below. However, the method using inseam length is more accurate.

- Rather the next frame in size when riding tour-orientated

What should you know about studded tires?
- Can you also ride on normal roads with studded tires? no problem at all. However, if there is rarely snow and the road is usually clear, you will soon be bothered by the running noise.
- And you don't slip? No. The spikes also "claw" into normal asphalt roads very well. Even fast bends are no problem.
- Aren't spikes forbidden? Spikes are not a problem for bicycle tires. Only for motor vehicles are spikes prohibited in some countries because they damage the road. However, fast e-bikes are considered motor vehicles.
- Do the tires have to be run in? To ensure that the spikes stay on permanently, the tires should be run in for approx. 40 km on asphalt. Avoid heavy acceleration and braking.
- How long do the spikes last? All Schwalbe spikes have a core made of extremely wear-resistant hard metal (tungsten carbide). You can ride several thousand kilometers with them. It is normal for the corners to grind round and for the spikes to be pressed in a little deeper.
- Some spikes have been lost. Can I replace them? Yes, we offer a set of replacement studs including tools.
- When do the tires reach their limits? Even studded tires don't help in deep snow.
- There is rarely snow where I live. How can I make good use of studded tires? Ideally, you should mount the tires on a second bike. In the morning, you decide on the right bike depending on the weather. On icy roads, when even the cars are driving very carefully, it's a great feeling to have full control on the studded tires.

ice good. snow good. slush pretty bad but then again that's also true for even cars using good winter tires. it seems like basically every tire struggles with slush.
