Calculate frame size
The right size of your hardtail mountain-bike:
The Inside leg length is multiplied by 0.226 and thus you get the theoretical value of the frame size in inch. One inch equals 2.54 cm.
If the theoretical value is in-between two sizes, the following rule of thumb can be applied:
- choose the smaller size when riding athletically
- choose the larger size when riding tour-orientated
How to determine your Inside leg length:
The Inside leg length or stride height is the length of the inside of the leg. The most accurate way to measure your stride length is to use a spirit level and a tape measure or folding rule. Stand barefoot on a flat surface, clamp the spirit level horizontally between your legs and measure the distance from the upper edge of the spirit level to the ground. This value corresponds to your stride length.
Alternatively, you can also determine your frame height based on your height, see the table below. However, the method using inseam length is more accurate.

Product information "Tempo Artica R5 GTX - Winter Road Bike Shoes"
Designed and engineered for winter: the Tempo Artica R5 GTX road cycling shoes from Fizik
The Tempo Artica GTX is a fully insulating, waterproof and breathable winter road cycling shoe. No matter how bad the weather is and what kind of adventure you have planned, this shoe will protect you from even the most adverse weather conditions.
Thanks to the insulating GORE-TEX Koala membrane, the Tempo Artica GTX is completely waterproof. That means you can count on proven performance that's guaranteed to keep your feet dry when it really counts. But advanced GORE-TEX technology not only reliably keeps out the elements, it also provides enhanced breathability.
In the Artica GTX, there are two components that provide the optimal fit - especially important for effective power transfer on the road bike. The upper Velcro closure wraps around the ankle for a snug fit, while the lower part of the shoe features a single L6 BOA® dial for infinite adjustment.
The Artica GTX features a brushed fleece lining to protect toes from the cold and keep feet warm. This provides two benefits at once: a soft layer for added comfort on the feet, and extra warmth for triple-digit mileage rides, even in single-digit temperatures.
The redesigned R5 nylon outsole provides comfort and moderate stiffness for efficient pedaling. In addition, the cleat position is slightly more rearward compared to traditional shoes to optimize pedaling efficiency and reduce pressure on the knees. In this winter-specific design, the outsole has no ventilation holes to keep feet warm and dry.

My feet are not a concerned anymore for winter rides. You may need to add toe warmers or overshoes on those freezing days with winter socks. The shoes does let air through the holes but keeps the water out. Water gaiters or cuff is a muss to keep water from going in the shoes. Money well spent when you can do 5 hours in 30 F and not notice your feet on the wet cold ride.

This shoe was rated as winter shoes of the year at some websites but I'm a bit disappointed with it. Around 0°C degreees was the coldest so far I bought but my 10 years old Northwawe performed better with similar socks. The cuffs could be higher, they push up the bibs thus my ankles exposed to the wind. The positives are sizing, it's correct, easy to put on them, they holds my feet quite well. I would recommend this pair of shoes those who not going out under 0°C.
