The new design of the Shimano Ultegra FC-R8100-P 2 x 12-speed HOLLOWTECH II power meter crankset not only brings a cult-like look and aesthetics, but also ensures even better performance. The new dual sided power meter with optimised accuracy (±2.0 %) sets a new standard in power measurement.
The ULTEGRA FC-R8100-P offers the same accuracy and feature set as the DURA-ACE powermeter crank at a more affordable price. Measuring training thresholds is a science and asks for user-friendliness. The new powermeter offers both. The dual-sided measurement accuracy is down to 1.5% and calibration is quickly and easily done. And what is perhaps most important: the long battery lifespan, simple rechargeability and connectivity with ANT+ and Bluetooth LE make it child's play to use it and assess your workouts.
The power meter ‘brain’ sits inside the Ultegra drive crank body (the spider) and the strain gauges sit inside the crank arms to measure left and right leg power. The brain is discrete and compact, providing a system that’s one of the lightest and cleanest on the market. Because the power meter is connected to the spider, chain rings can be easily changed without affecting the power meter’s accuracy. The system checking and firmware upload can also be operated by your smart phone or tablet PC through a Bluetooth connection (E-TUBE). An integrated rechargeable battery powers the unit. The concept of HOLLOWTECH II technology is focused on producing a superior crankset which will maximize a rider’s power transfer. The rigidity of the crankset ensures pedaling efficiency while its weight, a key element of the crankset, you want light, aids in cycling longer distances over which the rider needs to pedal more. Naturally, SHIMANO strove for the optimum balance between the conflicting needs of stiffness while producing a lightweight crank. HOLLOWTECH technology is an ultra-lightweight hollow crankarm created by SHIMANO with the company’s own proprietary forging technology that also maintains rigidity. The addition of HOLLOWTECH II technology integrates the bottom bracket axle with the right crankarm for more stiffness and a weight savings to achieve a high-dimensional balance. Its outboard bottom bracket bearing system provides better weight distribution and more pedaling stability, allowing for more efficient power transfer.
