All STI units feature a brake lever pivot point raised by 18 mm, a curved lever shape and non-slip textures on the contact surfaces, ensuring optimum grip even on the roughest terrain. The STI range within the GRX family is complemented by the 1x11-speed RX800 and RX600 STIs for the left-hand side, without shifting or DSP functionality, including the 1x11 Di2version (ST-RX815), whose three switches (two on the side and one on the top of the lever) can be used to operate third-party devices such as compatible lights or cycle computers.
The design of the GRX brake calipers is reminiscent of SHIMANO’s flat-mount models from the road bike range and delivers equally high braking performance. They also feature established technologies such as One-Way Bleeding and the ICE-TECHNOLOGIES thermal management system, with brake pads and discs featuring cooling fins for maximum resistance to fade.
The fact that SHIMANO is able to present the GRX – the first gravel-specific component family designed equally for speed and safe bike handling on loose surfaces – is the result of an intensive and extensive research, testing and development process, which incorporated information and feedback from countless riders who ride on trails, forest tracks, gravel tracks and tarmac all over the world.

The SERVOWAVE brake lever covers a long distance at the start of its movement, allowing the pads to be brought into contact with the brake disc with minimal lever travel. Once the brake pad makes contact, the force transmission ratio increases rapidly. This means that the majority of the lever travel is still available to increase braking force and modulate it more precisely.
