Magura SECOND-HAND / MT5 disc brake
Product information "SECOND-HAND / MT5 disc brake"
This Magura MT5 disc brake is a second-hand item in damaged original packaging with a shortened brake hose (980 mm). The product has cosmetic defects which do not affect its function in any way and are shown in the images (signs of wear). Furthermore, the fixing screws, olive and pin are missing.
The full braking power of the 4-piston calipers is now available as an affordable entry-level option. The Magura MT5 incorporates all the features of the MT7 and is ideal for downhill and enduro riding. It is reliable and powerful, yet lightweight.
Tried-and-tested 4-piston technology from motorbike racing, adapted for cycling, promises maximum braking power. Braking power combined with ergonomics results in a performance package that lets you tackle any trail or challenging terrain with confidence and complete composure. Naturally, it’s also perfectly suited to S-pedelecs. The aluminium brake levers fit ergonomically in the hand, allowing you to modulate braking power easily and precisely, even during long braking manoeuvres. The use of Carbotecture® technology in the brake lever housing helps the MT5 achieve a low weight whilst delivering top-class braking performance.

Technology
What is Carbotecture?
In the highly specialised motorcycling and cycling industries, MAGURA is synonymous with the highest quality, reliability and sophisticated components, thanks to our in-house production in Germany. Through the development of specialised materials and processes such as Carbotecture® and Carbolay®, we have made designs and constructions possible that no other manufacturer can achieve. At our production and assembly sites in Hülben and Hengen, situated in the immediate vicinity of our original factory in Bad Urach, we have established an extremely effective quality assurance system. Lightweight, extremely sturdy and, at the same time, offering absolutely reliable performance for years on end – for our MAGURA brakes, we achieve these qualities using several plastics developed in-house. To call them ‘plastics’ would be a real insult.
We see ourselves as architects of our materials: this is how our base material, Carbotecture®, came into being – a portmanteau of ‘carbon’ and ‘architecture’. A mixture of high-tech polymers and carbon or glass fibres is transformed into a plastic granulate through a series of complex processes. During the manufacturing process – from this granulate to the finished component – the carbon fibres are optimally aligned to meet the load requirements. Using this Carboflow process, any desired shape can be produced from the granulate via injection moulding. Compared with aluminium, the traditional lightweight construction material, our Carbotecture® offers significant advantages: whilst offering the same tensile strength and breaking strength as aluminium, Carbotecture® is 50 per cent lighter – in other words, it weighs just half as much! Carbotecture® is a dream material, but only thanks to our highly advanced machinery and processes: smooth surfaces in all complex shapes are possible. This is how we produce our brake levers, which are both rigid and lightweight. BMW also relies on the special properties of Carbotecture® for its motorbikes; for example, the clutch actuator on the BMW GS is made from this material.
With our Carbotecture SL® material, we increase this strength whilst simultaneously reducing weight by incorporating medium-length rather than short carbon fibres into the polyamides. The brake levers in our MT disc brake series, which has won numerous test awards, are made from Carbotecture® and Carbotecture SL®.
Another material is Carbolay®, which is manufactured using a fully automated process. In this process, the carbon fibres are positioned to withstand the required loads using a textile process and are then fully automatically impregnated with resin in a mould. This enables brake levers to be produced in Carbolay® with an attractive and ergonomically optimised design: perfect transmission of finger force thanks to high stiffness combined with the components’ low weight.
