How Ergon minimises seating problems
When cycling, most of your body weight is borne by the small surface area of the saddle. If the weight is not distributed evenly across the sit bones, pressure builds up in the extremely sensitive perineal and genital areas – resulting in discomfort. A relief channel helps, but it is not the only important factor.

For healthy pressure distribution, the interplay between the distance between the sit bones and the angle of the upper body must be correct. An ergonomic bicycle saddle should have sufficient contact area whilst still allowing the thighs freedom of movement. Cycling is also not a static activity. When going uphill, the rider intuitively slides towards the front of the saddle to shift their centre of gravity forwards. The opposite happens when going downhill.

Ergon takes all this into account when developing every saddle. Ergon develops specific models for every application, for the everyday cyclist as well as for the professional. Their saddles are available in various widths, are designed to be completely seamless for dynamic sitting, and their anatomical shape allows for comfortable riding in all positions.

For men’s wellbeing
The Ergon development team has conducted extensive research into men’s health. The main cause of discomfort whilst cycling is the saddle. In men, high pressure on the extremely sensitive perineal area leads, amongst other things, to numbness. The testicles and penis, on the other hand, rarely cause discomfort, as they are able to avoid the pressure from sitting. The SR Allroad Core Men provides ideal relief for the male perineum: using MRI and CT scans, numerous prototypes and test riders, Ergon has ergonomically tailored its road bike saddles with pinpoint accuracy to the anatomy and needs of men.

More space for the legs
The male pelvis is less flexible than that of women. This means that men sit more upright on the saddle and place greater strain on their sit bones. Consequently, the transition area between the rear of the saddle and the nose of the saddle can be kept narrow (Y-shape). This gives the legs more room to pedal.

Men are different – we’ve got it right
Unlike in female anatomy, in men the pubic rami are positioned at a much steeper angle to one another, and the pubic symphysis is situated significantly higher. This key difference between men and women has also been taken into account in the development of the saddle.

The right size
The shape and size of a saddle’s seating surface must match the rider’s sit bone spacing. As the pelvic bones taper forwards in a V-shape, the saddle must be able to provide the sit bones with a sufficiently large contact surface across different riding positions. Saddle widths are selected so that the usable seating area corresponds to the distance between the rider’s sit bones. The more a rider leans forward, the further forward the sit bones make contact with the saddle.
