XM 1700Spline® 30 Boost – the all-mountain benchmark for lightweight aluminium rims
DT Swiss rims are renowned and highly regarded for their low weight, high quality and strength. Today, all high-quality alloy rims are welded. In combination with DT Swiss’s unique PHR nipple-spoke connection disc, which distributes the load over a large area, the Swiss cycling specialists have been able to reduce the wall thickness and keep the rotational mass low. To meet the requirements of various applications, DT Swiss has developed specific rim profiles.
However, good components alone do not make a top-quality wheelset – the final step is crucial. It is only through professional assembly that quality components are transformed into a quality wheelset. Like all DT Swiss wheelsets, the 1700 Spline is also assembled by hand. Every day, hundreds of wheelsets are hand-built in factories in Switzerland, Poland, Asia and America, as no machine is capable of meeting the high quality standards and extremely tight tolerances required.

Wider
Wider than ever: a 30 mm rim width means lower rolling resistance. Cross-country wheelsets are ideal for fast races: on a rough surface, rolling resistance can account for up to 69% of total resistance.
SPEED = ENERGY / MOMENT OF INERTIA + ROLLING RESISTANCE + CLIMBING RESISTANCE + AIR RESISTANCE
Rolling resistance is defined as: rolling resistance coefficient × weight × acceleration due to gravity. The coefficient is determined by wheel size, tyre cross-section, tyre characteristics, tyre pressure, tread pattern and ground surface. Whilst most of these factors are hardly influenced by the wheel itself, at least the tyre’s contact patch can be modified. A wider rim provides an improved tyre contact patch, which allows for lower tyre pressure and results in less rolling resistance on rough terrain.
The 350 Hub + 36T Ratchet SL System
The DT Swiss 350 hub is fitted with a renowned ratchet system: all the teeth of the two ratchets engage simultaneously, forming a large contact area to transmit enormous torque. As the entire end faces interlock, only many small, localised loads are generated. The result is the legendary reliability of the ratchet system. Thanks to the tool-free design, the hub is easy to maintain and the hub’s freehub body can be converted without the use of tools. For the 1700SPLINE®, the 350 model has been upgraded with the 36T Ratschet SL system (SL stands for ‘super-light’ due to milled-out ratchets). This reduces the engagement angle to 10 degrees, which represents the sweet spot in terms of reliability, weight and power transmission.
Straightpull technology
Straightpull refers to straight, non-offset spokes. Thanks to this technology, it is possible to achieve an ideal balance between weight and stability. The straightpull spokes allow for very precise alignment and optimised positioning within the wheel, thereby ensuring a stiffer and more responsive wheel.
