The rolling properties of the rubber compound of a tire are primarily determined by three interacting factors – stiction [grip], rolling resistance and mileage [longevity] . The dilemma: If you improve any of these factors it can have a detrimental effect on at least one of the others. A tire with maximum grip wears quicker and rolls more slowly. If you then make a tire roll faster and more durable, grip, in turn, is reduced. With our Black Chili compound, a tread compound which is always based on the latest knowledge of polymers and raw material research, we have supplied the cycling industry with an enduring solution. Depending on the application of a tire, we adjust the compound formulation for the specific discipline – for road or mountain biking, time trialling or downhill racing. How does that work? For Black Chili we refine special synthetic rubbers with proven natural rubber to high-performance tread mixtures. To these mixtures we then add soot particles, which in turn are optimised in shape and surface properties.
Vectran™Breaker - The benchmark in puncture protection
Vectran™ is a synthetically manufactured high-tech fibre from a natural model. Like spider silk, Vectran™ is a liquid-crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran™ is spun from the melted liquid polymer Vectra and processed further to a multi-strand thread. Spider silk like Vectran™ has an enormous tear resistance at a very low weight: Exactly the right properties to process into a premium Continental bicycle tyre as a puncture protection insert. A Vectran™ Breaker is lighter, more flexible and protects more effectively against cuts than the comparable nylon breaker. Vectran™ Breaker does not adversely affect the rolling resistance.

Leicht, geile Optik und verdammt viel Grip. Ich fahre die Reifen mit TPU-Schläuchen in 32mm. Bis jetzt (nach ca. 200km) noch keine Probleme. Langzeiterfahrung steht noch aus.
Ausgezeichnete Reifen – leicht, schnell und robust. Nach dem Winter sind die Radwege mit kleinen scharfen Steinen übersät, aber nach 200 km gibt es keine Schnitte oder sogar Kratzer! Ich bin mit diesen Reifen sehr zufrieden!
Nach 600km schon defekt. Für die Stadt eher weniger geeignet. Nach nur 600km habe ich nun schon ein kleines Loch im Mantel, durch das sich der Schlauch drückt.

After a single ride with these tires I was impressed. Wow! To describe these tires I only need three words: simply the best. Very fast, very grippy and comfortable. I use the 622 x 32mm version.
Best tires ever. First puncture after 1,5 years combined with Vittoria latex inner tube!
