The original mountain bike groupset continues its legacy of setting the standard for the world's MTB enthusiasts. For almost three decades now, the DEORE XT has been characterised by proven durability, reliability and performance. The latest version of the groupset was confronted with the challenge that the modern mountain biker is travelling in ever more technically demanding terrain - and is also chasing faster over the trails. SHIMANO has done everything it can to meet this challenge and is once again launching cutting-edge technology for mountain bikes in 2019 with the DEORE XT M8100.

Shimano XT FC-M8100-1 12-speed crank 180mm without chainring

The Shimano XT FC-M8100 1x12-speed crank with 172 mm Q-factor, 52 mm chainline and 142 / 148 mm installation width stands for maximum drivetrain efficiency with low weight. In addition to a new special 12-speed chain (CN-M8100) with a correspondingly new 12-speed QUICK LINK lock, SHIMANO is also equipping the XT M8100 with new cranksets for 12-speed (FC-M8100/8120/8130-1). A wide range of chainrings (28T to 36T) is available for those who predominantly rely on 1-speed systems.

The new XT 1x12-speed cranks are characterised by the DYNAMIC CHAIN ENGAGEMENT+ technology, whose special high-precision tooth profile ensures that the chain finds optimum grip on the upper part of the chainring on rough terrain, but also releases from the chainring equally well at the bottom, thus ensuring efficiency, smooth running and quiet operation of the drivetrain. The cranks are equipped with a direct mount system for quick and safe chainring installation, which allows chainrings to be changed in no time at all. The cranks are available in Boost and Non-Boost specifications.

Shimano XT SL-M8100 I-Spec EV 12-speed shifter

The XT SL-M8100-I 12-speed Rapidfire Plus shift lever from Shimano with the new I-Spec EV construction is characterised by its lightweight, ergonomic and compact design. In addition to the shifting behaviour, the performance is also up a gear. With 20 % shorter lever reach for fast shifting and 35 % less effort.

The theory behind the development of the new shift levers was to enable the rider to react immediately to sudden changes caused by the course or the racing situation. To this end, the intuitive operation of the handlebar elements has been significantly optimised once again, which can mean a decisive tenth of a second advantage in racing. The new I-SPEC-EV design, which allows SHIMANO shift levers to be mounted directly on the brake lever, thereby eliminating the need for a clamp and significantly increasing the adjustment range, makes a decisive contribution to this. 14 mm are available with I-SPEC-EV for adjustment in the longitudinal direction, 60° for adjustment in the rotational direction, so that every rider can set up the lever to suit their individual anatomy or preferences. This special focus that the developers have placed on shifting ultimately benefits the rider by allowing them to take their focus away from the controls and fully concentrate on the racing action. The RAPIDFIRE Plus MONO lever with its rubber contact surfaces guarantees unprecedented shifting comfort at the front. With one push of the lever, the front derailleur shifts to the large chainring, another push releases the lock and the front derailleur shifts back. Easier, lighter and faster than ever before.

The Shimano XT RD-M8100 12-speed rear derailleur is characterised by an elegant yet aggressively angled design and an attractive anodised aluminium surface. New, large guide and tension pulleys with 13 instead of the previous 11 teeth ensure improved shifting performance. These also contribute to improved chain stabilisation, as does the Shadow RD+ design with friction damper.

Shimano XT CS-M8200 12-speed cassette 10-51

The Shimano CS-M8200 with Hyperglide+ for faster shifting is the right cassette for the new XT 12-speed groupset. The redesigned cassette and chain of the HYPERGLIDE+ drivetrain represent the new generation of MTB touring - with improved speed, shifting efficiency and smoothness on any terrain.

The starting point for this new development in the drivetrain area was the goal of realising the smallest possible shifting steps so that the cadence jumps during shifting remain as small as possible, rhythm and propulsion are maintained and ultimately the speed is kept high. This ultimately resulted in the large 51-tooth sprocket, which maintains the uniform difference of 6 teeth per gear (10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-33-39-45-51), especially in the lower gears. In addition, the XT also comes with a 10-45T 12-speed cassette (10-12-14-16-18-21-24-28-32-36-40-45), which enables an even finer or narrower gradation between the gears on faster or less steep race courses. This makes the 10-45 cassette ideal for XC racers for whom close gradations are crucial and every gram counts. The 10-51 cassette, on the other hand, is the ideal choice for trail riders who can tackle even the steepest ramps. For the new 12-speed cassettes, SHIMANO has revised the design of the freehub on the XT M8100 and uses the new MICRO SPLINE technology.

DYNAMIC CHAIN ENGAGEMENT+
Special tooth function SHIMANO's DYNAMIC CHAIN ENGAGEMENT+ is a special tooth profile for single chainrings in XC, Enduro and Trail applications. It improves the retention and guidance of the chain and makes pedalling easier, even in rough terrain. The improved chain guidance in every gear reduces abrasion and wear.

HOLLOWTECH II
Perfect balance between stiffness, stability, weight and rotational efficiency The HOLLOWTECH II technology concept was designed to produce an optimised crankset that minimises the effort required by the rider to drive the drivetrain. The high rigidity of the crankset ensures efficient power transmission when pedalling, while its low weight takes the strain off the rider, especially on longer journeys. The crankset was developed with a view to optimising the ratio between stiffness and low weight. HOLLOWTECH technology enables extremely light, hollow crankarms that are manufactured using SHIMANO's exclusive forging technology to maximise stiffness. In addition, the HOLLOWTECH II crankset has the right crank firmly connected to the axle of the bottom bracket, which achieves an optimum balance between maximum stiffness and minimum weight. The externally mounted bottom bracket offers better weight distribution and more stability, which ensures more efficient power transmission. When developing the HOLLOWTECH II crankset, emphasis was placed on achieving an optimum balance between stiffness and rotational efficiency as well as low weight and an attractive appearance. High-quality precision seals The HOLLOWTECH II crankset also features high-quality precision seals in the bearing area to extend durability and maintain excellent rotational efficiency in the long term.

Instant Release
The Instant Release shifting process replaces the two-stage click and release process. With Instant Release, the cable is released immediately when the lever is operated, thus achieving the fastest possible gear change. Regardless of whether an upward gear change is to be made with a top-normal rear derailleur or a downward gear change with a low-normal rear derailleur - a faster gear change is always a better gear change.

2-Way Release
The release lever of a RAPIDFIRE Plus shifter is pulled towards the grip like the trigger of a pistol. The release lever of the new RAPIDFIRE Plus shift levers from ALIVIO to XTR can be operated in the same way. However, it can also be used to shift gears by pressing the thumb.

Rapidfire Plus
RAPIDFIRE Plus has been used by mountain bikers since 1985. RAPIDFIRE Plus continues to be used successfully by a wide variety of rider groups, from cross-country competition riders to freeriders. RAPIDFIRE Plus is suitable for fast shifting. The rider can downshift by up to three gears with a single shift. All RAPIDFIRE Plus shift levers, from DEORE to XTR, are equipped with 2-WAY-RELEASE (release in two directions). This means that the shift cable is released by pulling with the index finger or pressing with the thumb.

Rapidfire Plus Mono
The RAPIDFIRE PLUS MONO lever is a user-friendly and simple front shifting element with a lightweight and compact design. It enables convenient upshifting and downshifting.

I-Spec-EV
I-SPEC EV creates a clean, action-optimised cockpit layout that helps more riders to increase concentration and flexibility.

• Thanks to the wider adjustment range, a wide variety of riders can find their optimum position - regardless of riding style, preferences and body type.
• The ergonomic design, faster lever access and smooth operation increase riding comfort and promote concentration.

Thanks to the larger adjustment range, the I-SPEC EV levers can be set to the optimum position for a wide variety of riding styles (ENDURO, XC, etc.), rider preferences and rider anatomy (hand and arm position). With I-SPEC EV, the brake clamps are positioned further inwards. This creates an additional contact point between the handlebars and the brake lever, which increases the stiffness of the lever. This additional support significantly improves control of the bike and the braking effect. There is still space between the clamp and the support point for other accessories mounted on the handlebars.

MICRO SPLINE
MICRO SPLINE MICRO SPLINE reduces weight with a lightweight FREEHUB cassette hub, whereby the largest chainring has 10 teeth. Use in combination with MICRO SPLINE cassette sprocket and FREEHUB.
