Shimano ULTEGRA PD-R8200 SPD-SLR Pedals
Product information "ULTEGRA PD-R8200 SPD-SLR Pedals"
The ULTEGRA PD-R8200 pedal, featuring SPD-SLR architecture, brings race-proven performance straight to the road – whether you’re training hard, competing or embarking on epic long-distance rides. Thanks to the lightweight carbon body and the robust stainless steel insert, you’ll benefit from maximum stiffness, efficient power transfer and the familiar, intuitive clip-in action you’d expect from DURA-ACE.
New integrated road cycling platform for greater efficiency and stability: the ULTEGRA RD-R8200 SPD-SLR pedals from Shimano
The next-generation road cycling shoes from the S-PHYRE series, along with the new DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA pedals and cleats, have been developed as a complete system to enhance efficiency and stability and improve the connection with the bike.
The next-generation road cycling shoes from the S-PHYRE series, together with the new DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA pedals and cleats, have been developed as a complete system to boost efficiency and stability and improve the connection with the bike.
For decades, SHIMANO has been convinced that peak performance is not achieved through individual components alone. What matters is how each part works together with the others.
SHIMANO continues this philosophy with the launch of SPD-SLR: featuring next-generation road cycling shoes from the S-PHYRE series, DURA-ACE and ULTEGRA pedals, and a new cleat system. Developed as an integrated platform, SPD-SLR creates a more direct connection between rider and bike through a lower profile, faster clip-in, lighter components and simplified adjustment options.
Rather than simply redesigning a single product, SHIMANO has optimised every interface through which power is transferred: from the shoe to the cleat, from the cleat to the pedal, and from the rider to the bike. This results in a more efficient riding experience, from the very first pedal stroke right through to the final sprint.
Developed as a system
Every watt is transmitted via the rider’s foot. That is why SHIMANO develops road cycling shoes, pedals and cleats together as a complete system. With SPDSLR, every contact point has been redesigned to reduce unnecessary movement whilst improving stability, efficiency and confidence. The result is a more direct connection between rider and bike. This allows power to be transferred more naturally, whilst maintaining the comfort and proven reliability expected from SHIMANO.
Lower profile
At the heart of the SPD-SLR is a completely redesigned interface between the cleat and the pedal. By redesigning the pedal platform and the cleat, SHIMANO has been able to reduce the height by 2.3 mm. This brings the foot closer to the pedal axle than ever before. The shorter distance creates a more stable pedalling platform, improves power transfer and increases control over the bike – whether climbing, sprinting or riding at the anaerobic threshold.
Faster clip-in
The connection with the pedal should be immediate. SPD-SLR features a larger engagement area and a narrower clip-in angle of 10.5° compared to 15.5° on the SPD-SL. This allows riders to clip in more naturally and securely – when setting off from traffic lights, after bends or at the start of a sprint.
Lighter construction
The newly developed SPD-SLR cleats are up to 22% lighter than their SPD-SL counterparts, whilst offering the durability expected from SHIMANO’s race-proven road cycling platform.
Simpler adjustment for greater safety
Even small adjustments can make a significant difference on long rides. High-contrast markings make it easier to fit and reposition the cleats. This allows you to reproduce your preferred setting precisely, whilst making the initial fitting process simpler and more intuitive.

Technology
Compatibility
SPD-SLR cleats are designed for SPD-SLR pedals and are not compatible with previous SPD-SL pedals. Anyone switching to SPD-SLR pedals will therefore also need the appropriate SPD-SLR cleats. SPD-SL cleats are also not compatible with the new SPD-SLR pedals. Shoes with a slotted mounting are compatible with both the old (SPD-SL) and the new (SPD-SLR) cleats and can therefore be used with both the new and old pedals. The grey cleat (CL-SL130) is designed for switching from shoes with a three-hole mounting to the new system. It offers additional adjustment range, but does not match the low profile and weight advantages of the integrated SPD-SLR cleats.
The combination of pedal, cleat and shoe
SPD-SLR was not developed as a single new component, but as a coordinated system. The pedal, cleat and shoe interlock to minimise unnecessary movement between the rider and the bike. The new interface reduces the profile height by 2.3 mm and brings the foot closer to the pedal axle. A wider engagement zone makes it easier to clip in. The clip-in angle is 10.5°, compared to 15.5° on the previous SPD-SL system, meaning the foot needs to be moved less and clipping in is easier. The connection between the shoe, cleat and pedal is seamless, with no unnecessary gaps or play at the interface. This ensures greater stability, a more direct feel on the pedals and more efficient power transfer. The different cleat variants allow you to tailor the desired range of movement to your own riding style.
The new SPD-SLR pedals
With the DURA-ACE PD-R9300 and ULTEGRA PD-R8200, SHIMANO is launching two new road bike pedals. Compared to previous models, they offer an extra-wide platform, high stiffness and efficient power transfer. The carbon composite body keeps the weight low. An integrated stainless steel contact plate ensures a robust and rigid contact surface. The wider-spaced axle distributes the load more evenly. Redesigned bearing surfaces and the heat-treated axle reduce rotational resistance and ensure a smooth, even ride. The DURA-ACE PD-R9300 also offers 11% greater stiffness and 53% less rotational resistance compared to the previous model and is designed for maximum racing performance. The ULTEGRA PD-R8200 features the new SPD-SLR technology for training, competition and long rides.
The new SPD-SLR cleats
One platform, four cleats: with four cleat variants, the SPD-SLR system can be adapted to different riding styles and requirements. The models differ primarily in terms of freedom of movement and the possible positioning of the foot. The red CL-SL100 offers a completely fixed position with no float. The yellow CL-SL110 allows ±3° (6° in total) of freedom of movement. The blue CL-SL120 offers ±1° (2° in total) of freedom of movement and is designed for greater comfort and reduced strain on the joints. The grey CL-SL130 offers an additional adjustment range and can therefore also be used with shoes that have a three-hole mounting system, which does not allow for adjustment on the shoe itself. The new cleats are up to 22 per cent lighter than the corresponding SPD-SL cleats. The thinner rear section also makes walking in road cycling shoes more comfortable. High-contrast markings make fitting easier and help you precisely re-establish your personal cleat position. SPD-SLR cleats have been developed exclusively for SPD-SLR pedals and are not compatible with SPD-SL pedals.
The new shoes designed for the SPD-SLR system
The new SH-RC910 and SH-RC810 road cycling shoes were developed in conjunction with the SPD-SLR system. They provide a secure hold for the foot, reduce unnecessary movement within the shoe and support efficient power transfer throughout the entire pedal stroke. Both models offer an extended adjustment range for the cleats thanks to the larger slotted mount. The S-PHYRE SH-RC910 is the top-of-the-range model for demanding racing conditions. The carbon heel counter with anti-twist stabilisation, the carbon hollow-core midsole and SHIMANO DYNALAST 2.0 combine secure support with high efficiency and are designed to reduce foot fatigue during prolonged exertion. New ventilation openings also ensure improved breathability. The SH-RC910 is available in white, black and blue. The SH-RC810 incorporates key technologies from the S-PHYRE range. These include two BOA® Li2 dial fasteners, an external heel stabiliser, a stiff carbon midsole with hollow channels, and replaceable heel pads. The hollow channels also aid ventilation and water drainage. The SH-RC810 is available in white, black and peach. Both models feature the new SHIMANO DYNALAST 2.0 technology with three customisable width options. Click the button to find out more.
