Calculate frame size
The right size of your hardtail mountain-bike:
The Inside leg length is multiplied by 0.226 and thus you get the theoretical value of the frame size in inch. One inch equals 2.54 cm.
If the theoretical value is in-between two sizes, the following rule of thumb can be applied:
- choose the smaller size when riding athletically
- choose the larger size when riding tour-orientated
How to determine your Inside leg length:
The Inside leg length or stride height is the length of the inside of the leg. The most accurate way to measure your stride length is to use a spirit level and a tape measure or folding rule. Stand barefoot on a flat surface, clamp the spirit level horizontally between your legs and measure the distance from the upper edge of the spirit level to the ground. This value corresponds to your stride length.
Alternatively, you can also determine your frame height based on your height, see the table below. However, the method using inseam length is more accurate.

I rode today for the first time with my new Shimano shoes, and I’m really quite happy with them. At first, they were a bit tricky to put on, but it’s not a big issue. The shoes are very comfortable, especially considering that I have wide feet — that was a key factor for me when choosing them. I went with size 44 for this model. For reference, I wear size 44 in Nike and 43.5 in Crankbrothers, so that should help you choose the right size. The shoes are pretty lightweight. I rode in mud today, and while I’m not entirely sure how they’ll perform in heavy rain or very wet conditions, they didn’t let any water through during today’s ride, even through puddles. I’d say they’re not meant for cold weather — they won’t keep your feet warm in winter. They’re definitely more suitable for autumn conditions. One thing I really liked is the BOA system — it works perfectly. There’s no risk of overtightening because the BOA cables are connected through elastic straps. That means you can’t pull too hard and make your foot feel uncomfortable. Overall, I’m very satisfied with them. ⸻

Trage 42, also habe ich 43 gekauft. Passt perfekt.
