Calculate frame size
The right size of your hardtail mountain-bike:
The Inside leg length is multiplied by 0.226 and thus you get the theoretical value of the frame size in inch. One inch equals 2.54 cm.
If the theoretical value is in-between two sizes, the following rule of thumb can be applied:
- choose the smaller size when riding athletically
- choose the larger size when riding tour-orientated
How to determine your Inside leg length:
The Inside leg length or stride height is the length of the inside of the leg. The most accurate way to measure your stride length is to use a spirit level and a tape measure or folding rule. Stand barefoot on a flat surface, clamp the spirit level horizontally between your legs and measure the distance from the upper edge of the spirit level to the ground. This value corresponds to your stride length.
Alternatively, you can also determine your frame height based on your height, see the table below. However, the method using inseam length is more accurate.

Product information "CL-MT001 SPD Cleats with Cleat Nut"
Multiple entry, improved walkability and full compatibility with existing SPD shoe and pedal systems: the CL-MT001 cleats from Shimano
Since its introduction in 1995, the SM-SH51 cleat has established itself as the reliable choice for millions of riders worldwide. With advances in pedal and shoe technologies and the changing needs of riders, SHIMANO took the opportunity to rethink the interface between pedal and cleat from the ground up. The result is the CL-MT001 cleats, which combine the proven reliability of SPD with modern versatility and ease of use.Multiple entry
While the original SH51 cleats require a "toe-first" entry, the CL-MT001 allows riders to click into the pedal in multiple ways. This means that you can click in front first and then back as usual, or back first and then front, or simply step directly onto the pedal for a quick and reliable connection between pedal and cleat.
The extended entry range is beneficial for a wide range of riders.
- Enduro riders and all those who love dynamic off-road conditions will appreciate the quick click-in option, which is particularly important after short ground contact in technical terrain.
- Cyclocross and gravel racers who often have to overcome obstacles can immediately get back on the pedals and continue riding powerfully thanks to the quick engagement options.
- New riders will enjoy the intuitive click-in and added security and will feel much more comfortable on their first rides on the road and trails.
The new CL-MT001 cleats are fully backwards compatible with all existing 2-hole SHIMANO SPD pedal and shoe systems, so riders can enjoy improved performance and versatility without having to swap out their current setup.
