Technologies
HFS – HYDRO FORMING SYSTEM
Various machining processes are used to optimise the shape and wall thickness of aluminium tubes. One particularly complex and effective method is hydroforming. In this process, the aluminium tube is placed in a negative mould and shaped into the desired form using a hot water-oil emulsion injected under high pressure. This produces precisely shaped aluminium tubes, which form the basis for lightweight, aesthetically pleasing and stable aluminium frames.
X-TAPER HEADTUBE
Precise steering is crucial for safe and confident handling. The X-TAPER HEADTUBE utilises a larger headset diameter in the lower section and a smaller one in the upper section to specifically absorb the stresses acting on the head tube. At the same time, it avoids unnecessary weight. The system allows for the straightforward fitting of tapered forks and ensures precise and confidence-inspiring steering behaviour.
SMOOTH WELDING
The smooth welding process gives the weld seams a particularly flat and high-quality finish. The welding torch is passed over the seam twice, thereby smoothing the filler metal. This complex process requires a great deal of experience and craftsmanship. The result is sturdy and elegant frames with a particularly harmonious surface finish, some of which are visually reminiscent of carbon frames.
INTERNAL CABLE ROUTING
With internal cable routing, gear and brake cables run inside the frame. Depending on the frame, discreet entry and exit points or systems such as SMART ENTRY or WIRE PORT are used for this purpose. The protected cable routing reduces the impact of the weather, ensures a clean and tidy appearance and can also offer aerodynamic benefits.
DI2 READY
The electronic Shimano Di2 gear-shifting system enables fast, precise and reliable gear changes. Numerous performance-oriented road bike frames are already prepared for the integration of Di2. Electrical cables, batteries and other components required for the system can thus be integrated in accordance with the intended design.
NANO MATRIX CARBON
NANO MATRIX CARBON refers to a specialised carbon technology in which very fine nanoparticles are added to the resin between the individual carbon fibres. These influence the material structure at a molecular level and increase resistance to damage. The technology can increase the impact resistance of the carbon fibres by up to 40 per cent and enables the construction of particularly lightweight and durable composite frames.
AWS – ANTI-WRINKLE SYSTEM
The Anti-Wrinkle System is used in the manufacture of carbon frames. The carbon layers are first wrapped around special moulds. A bladder then presses the individual layers evenly against the outer wall of the frame mould. This creates a smooth and wrinkle-free inner surface, whilst reducing voids between the carbon layers. The result is an exceptionally strong and lightweight frame construction.
RACELITE 61 ALUMINIUM
RACELITE 61 aluminium is based on a 6061 aluminium alloy, which is particularly well suited to hydroforming and technoforming processes. This allows for varying wall thicknesses, double-butted tubes and complex frame shapes. The alloy, which is easy to weld, is carefully heat-treated to maximise its strength. This results in stable, lightweight and durable bicycle frames.
K-MOUNT
The K-MOUNT is an integrated mounting point on the chainstay for fitting a MERIDA side stand or a compatible standard side stand. This allows the bike to be parked securely even where no special bike stands or parking facilities are available. If a side stand is not required, the mounting point remains discreetly concealed beneath the chainstay and has virtually no impact on the bike’s clean lines.
THERMO GATE
When using an e-bike, heat is generated around the battery. Excessive heat can affect the efficiency and service life of the battery cells. THERMO GATE is used on e-mountain bikes with carbon frames and aids heat dissipation. The opening is designed similarly to an air intake but operates on the principle of a chimney: warm air can escape upwards, keeping the battery cooler and allowing it to maintain optimal performance for longer. With aluminium frames, this solution is not required due to the material’s superior thermal conductivity.
ENERGY GUARD
The two-part ENERGY GUARD battery cover offers comprehensive protection for the e-bike battery. The softer outer layer reduces noise, seals the down tube, protects against moisture and absorbs stone chips. The harder inner layer protects the battery and gives the cover its structural shape. Key components such as the elastic strap and O-rings can be replaced to ensure a consistently precise fit.
INTERNAL BLOCK SYSTEM
The INTERNAL BLOCK SYSTEM limits steering angle in both directions, thereby preventing the fork crown from colliding with the frame’s down tube. An integrated tab in the frame works in conjunction with a special adapter on the fork to limit the possible steering angle. An additional rubber coating protects the frame and fork from damage.
