The story of Leatherman began during a 1975 European road trip, where founder Tim Leatherman and his wife Chau constantly faced leaky hotel plumbing and roadside fixes for their cranky Fiat. Tim realized the urgent need for a pliers-based multipurpose tool: “I was carrying a scout knife and used it for everything from slicing bread to fixing the car. But I kept wishing I had a pair of pliers!” Back in the US, he engineered the prototype and officially launched the company in 1983, introducing the world’s first pliers-based multi-tool: the legendary PST.
For over 40 years, Leatherman has built exceptionally durable multi-tools in Oregon, putting them through rigorous testing in the rugged Pacific Northwest.
