Katana BBT-1 Bottom Bracket Tool Retention System with Assembly Lock
Product information "BBT-1 Bottom Bracket Tool Retention System with Assembly Lock"
Bottom brackets are among the components on a bicycle that are subjected to the highest torques. There is a very high risk of the tool slipping whilst tightening or loosening them, causing damage to expensive bearing cups or the frame. The Katana BBT-1 holding system elegantly solves this problem: it secures your bottom bracket tool rock-solid directly to the bottom bracket shell, ensuring it grips across the entire surface and can no longer tilt or slip.
The universal mounting system is the perfect addition to your bottom bracket setup. It is compatible with most bottom bracket spanners, 1/2″ drive sockets, and selected tools with a 3/8″ drive. Designed for threaded bottom brackets (Threaded Cup) and thread-together bottom bracket solutions (Thread-Together) with external cups. (Note: Not suitable for classic cartridge bottom brackets or tapered bottom brackets).
Features – Katana BBT-1 bottom bracket tool retention system with locking mechanism
- Anti-slip guarantee: Secures the tool firmly to the bearing cup under spring tension – effectively prevents slipping and damage
- High compatibility: Works with standard bottom bracket sockets (1/2" and, in some cases, 3/8" drive) as well as flat bottom bracket spanners
- Well-designed system: Consists of a robust threaded rod, a sturdy spring, washers and a knurled nut for tool-free pre-tensioning
- Applications: Perfect for bolted bottom brackets with external bearing cups (e.g. Hollowtech II, GXP, DUB BSA, etc.)
Step-by-step operating instructions
- Option 1: Use with a bottom bracket socket (socket wrench) & 1/2" ratchet/torque wrench
- 1. Feed the threaded rod through the bottom bracket tool (socket) and the frame’s bottom bracket shell.
- 2. On the opposite side, fit the washer, spring and knurled nut onto the threaded rod one after the other.
- 3. Tighten the nut by hand to compress the spring against the washer. This presses the tool firmly and without play against the bottom bracket shell.
- 4. Fit your 1/2" ratchet and install or remove the bottom bracket securely and precisely.
- Method 2: Using traditional flat bottom bracket spanners
- 1. First, thread the threaded rod through a washer, then through the opening in your bottom bracket spanner, and finally through the bottom bracket shell of the frame.
- 2. On the other side, fit the washer, the spring and the knurled nut onto the threaded rod in that order.
- 3. Tighten the nut to tension the spring. The spanner is now pressed against the bottom bracket without any gap and can no longer tilt sideways.
- 4. Carry out the installation or removal of the bottom bracket as usual.
