For thirty years, textiles featuring GORE-TEX® have been offering athletes high quality waterproofing, lightweight technology and excellent packability. The GORE-TEX® brand uses this unique experience to enter a new territory beyond the world of "waterproof" by introducing another advanced technology. GORE-TEX INFINIUM™, recognizable by its white diamond logo, is designed for people who focus on functionality and breathability, but do not necessarily require absolute waterproofing.
This technology complements and expands the range of GORE-TEX® products, continuing the tradition of high-quality weatherproof and highly breathable functional textiles. Thus, GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ offers sports designers even more creative options. This latest weapon for the constant battle against the elements allows for new textile structures covering the most diverse aspects of an active outdoor life. GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ is the result of consistent research and the desire to make things even better, to create textile equipment for even more occasions offering the best possible functionality while being exceptionally comfortable. In order to achieve this, there are different versions of the GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ technology available.
GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ Soft Lined Shell Technology
Textiles featuring this new GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ touch feel wonderfully soft, make very little noise while you move and do, of course, dry very quickly. Thanks to the outstanding breathability, you will stay pleasantly dry in a wide range of climatic conditions. GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ Soft Lined Shell is primarily used for jackets, because the innovative 2-layer material is not only convincing in terms of the above-mentioned properties but also in terms of its permanently water repellent surface, since the membrane is located directly on the outside without any textile outer fabric. This ensures an excellent breathable protection against light to moderate rain and snow. In addition, the material is windproof and lightweight. Together with the soft inner lining, the material sets new standards with respect to comfort for all kinds of adventures and sports activities, providing the best possible wearing comfort in all weather conditions.
GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER®
This new technology is the successor to the world-famous GORE® WINDSTOPPER® protection and is of course also ABSOLUTELY WINDPROOF and EXTREMELY BREATHABLE. Because one of the biggest disadvantages of the cold season is definitely the windchill effect.
It occurs when air penetrates a textile from the outside and sweeps away the heated layer of air between the skin and textile. This is due to a double loss of energy. Not just the lost warm air plays a role, but also the accelerated evaporation, which also causes a cooling – a desired effect when the weather is warm, but in bad weather you will start freezing.
GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® effectively stops this process. This is made possible by an ultra-thin protective layer, the membrane, which is connected (laminated) to a lightweight textile supporting material. This results in an absolutely windproof textile. The GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® membrane technology has billions of pores which are 900 times larger than water vapor molecules. Sweat can therefore easily penetrate to the outside, but the wind cannot come in from the outside. The outer textile is also usually equipped with a permanently water-repellent finish (DWR). During this treatment, the surface tension of the textile is reduced, which means that water is not absorbed by the textile, but forms drops and rolls off. Thus the outer fabric does not soak, which avoids the windchill effect and does not make the fabric heavy.
GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ WINDSTOPPER® clothing with insulation is designed to withstand the harsh cold and provide additional protection against the chill, so that cycling outdoors is a pleasure even during the colder months of the year, and one that does not have to stop because of an unsuitable textile equipment.
GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ GLOVES WITH STRETCH TECHNOLOGY
The new technology is also used in high-quality gloves, where it delivers textile performance thanks to a clever construction that is both comfortable and practical. GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ gloves with stretch technology are windproof and highly breathable, and the 3D-shaped single seam construction also provides a unique fit. Furthermore, the unique, pleasantly soft material feels great on the skin. Its exceptional breathability makes sweaty palms a thing of the past.
GORE-TEX INFINIUM™ stretch gloves are tight-fitting and less bulky than other models, so you can leave them on in many situations. Thanks to the unique design, you will equally be able to close your jacket's zipper, operate the smartphone, get money from the cashpoint and tie your shoelaces. Care instructions
Clothing featuring INFINIUM™ technology is extremely easy care and dries quickly – perfect for an active lifestyle. It is recommended to close all zippers before washing. In the case of outerwear that’s the front zipper, the pocket zippers and maybe zippers in the armpit area. Please also pay attention to cover strips and ribbons.
Washing
Gore recommends a normal household washing cycle, preferably a gentle cycle, with a maximum of 40 ºC and a little liquid detergent. Rinse twice to remove any detergent residue. Spin as little as possible to avoid creases. Washing powders or products containing fabric softeners, stain removers and bleach should be avoided as they impair the performance of the garment. Gloves can also be machine washed, although hand washing does not harm, of course. INFINIUM™ items should not be washed together with heavily soiled garments. It is of course advisable to also follow the manufacturer's special care instructions on the sewn-in labels.
Drying
INFINIUM™ garments should preferably be dried in the open air. A tip for gloves: to dry them, squeeze the water out from the fingertips to the wrist. Do not wring. Let them dry with the fingertips pointing upwards. After this first drying step, they can be dried in the tumble dryer using the gentle cycle at low temperature for 20 minutes to reactivate the durable water repellent (DWR) effect of the outer fabric. If no tumble dryer is available, the dry garment can also be ironed at a low temperature (warm, without steam). Just place a towel or other cloth between the garment and the iron – and you're ready to go outside again.
Waterproofing
However, the waterproof effect does not last indefinitely. Of course, regular wearing has an impact: abrasion, dirt, detergents, insect repellents and impurities can impair the effectiveness. But don't worry, it can be easily restored with special impregnating agents. If the originally applied impregnation can no longer be reactivated, it is possible to treat the outer fabric with a DWR impregnation. Nikwax offers an impregnating agent designed especially for the treatment of INFINIUM™ textiles. For next-to-skin outerwear, however, Gore recommends not to use wash-in impregnation products.
