Calculate frame size
The right size of your hardtail mountain-bike:
The Inside leg length is multiplied by 0.226 and thus you get the theoretical value of the frame size in inch. One inch equals 2.54 cm.
If the theoretical value is in-between two sizes, the following rule of thumb can be applied:
- choose the smaller size when riding athletically
- choose the larger size when riding tour-orientated
How to determine your Inside leg length:
The Inside leg length or stride height is the length of the inside of the leg. The most accurate way to measure your stride length is to use a spirit level and a tape measure or folding rule. Stand barefoot on a flat surface, clamp the spirit level horizontally between your legs and measure the distance from the upper edge of the spirit level to the ground. This value corresponds to your stride length.
Alternatively, you can also determine your frame height based on your height, see the table below. However, the method using inseam length is more accurate.

For the best in men
The Ergon development team has conducted intensive research into men's health. The main cause of discomfort when cycling is the saddle. In men, high pressure on the extremely sensitive perineal area leads to numbness, among other things. The testicles and penis, on the other hand, rarely cause discomfort, as they can avoid the pressure of the seat. The SR Men provides ideal relief for the male perineum: with MRI and CT analyses, many prototypes and test riders, we have tailored the racing bike saddle ergonomically and precisely to the anatomy and needs of men.
More space for the legs
The male pelvis is less flexible than that of women. This means that men sit more upright on the saddle and put more strain on the sit bones. The transition area between the rear of the saddle and the saddle nose can therefore be kept narrow (Y-shape). This gives your legs more room to pedal.
Men are different - we get it
In contrast to the female anatomy, men's pubic bones are much steeper towards each other and the symphysis pubis is much higher. This significant difference between men and women was also taken into account when developing the saddle.
The right size
The shape and size of a saddle's seat surface must match the rider's sit bone distance. As the pelvic bones taper forward in a V-shape, the saddle must be able to offer the sit bones a sufficiently large contact surface in different sitting positions. The saddle widths are selected so that the usable seat surface corresponds to the distance between the sit bones. The more forward a rider sits, the further forward the sit bones touch the saddle.
