Calculate frame size
The right size of your hardtail mountain-bike:
The Inside leg length is multiplied by 0.226 and thus you get the theoretical value of the frame size in inch. One inch equals 2.54 cm.
If the theoretical value is in-between two sizes, the following rule of thumb can be applied:
- choose the smaller size when riding athletically
- choose the larger size when riding tour-orientated
How to determine your Inside leg length:
The Inside leg length or stride height is the length of the inside of the leg. The most accurate way to measure your stride length is to use a spirit level and a tape measure or folding rule. Stand barefoot on a flat surface, clamp the spirit level horizontally between your legs and measure the distance from the upper edge of the spirit level to the ground. This value corresponds to your stride length.
Alternatively, you can also determine your frame height based on your height, see the table below. However, the method using inseam length is more accurate.

Technologies
Minimalistically compact
In tough terrain and on jumps, full freedom of movement is the be-all and end-all. We have therefore designed the SM Downhill Comp to be minimally compact (23.6 x 12 cm) and taken control, speed and safety to a new level.
360° padding
The 360° all-round edge padding of the SM Downhill Comp supports the best possible leg control for steering the bike and provides maximum protection. Unpleasant bruising on the inside of the legs is reduced by the padding.
Seating comfort plus grip
The well-padded anti-slip seat surface has two anti-slip surface zones. This gives you the comfort and grip you need for short sections and on the lift.
Maximum tire clearance
The rear of the SM Downhill Comp has a particularly short and flat design to give the tire enough room when the rear suspension is fully compressed. Even with small 29er frames and low saddle positions, there is no contact with the tire thanks to the cut-out.
Really nice and sloping
The entire surface design is consistently adapted to the angled orientation of a downhill saddle. Always downhill is the motto here - for steering on steep, technical terrain and in the air.
Always fits
One size fits all: the SM Downhill Comp is different from all other Ergon saddles. As it is not made for sitting on, but for perfect control of the bike on the race track and in the air, different widths or gender-specific cut-outs are not necessary.
