Gentle on the nerves
When cycling, the hands support a large proportion of the upper body’s weight on the handlebars. This creates high pressure on the small contact area of the grips. This often results in compression of the highly sensitive ulnar nerve, which runs close to the skin’s surface in the area of the little finger pad. This can lead to numbness. The wing-shaped grip increases the contact area of the hand, distributes the pressure over a wider area and prevents discomfort.
No bending – no tingling
Bending the wrist compresses nerves, tendons and blood vessels. The result: the carpal tunnel narrows and can damage the median nerve. Longer cycle rides, combined with increasing fatigue, make it difficult to maintain a healthy posture. The winged design of our GP grips supports the hand, automatically positioning the wrist in an ergonomically ideal position, and prevents numbness, tingling and pain.
Thick and thin for optimum control
To ensure you always have your bike under control, your hand should not completely encircle the grip. Ergon offers many grips in either ‘Small’ or ‘Large’ sizes. The difference relates to the grip width. This means that a larger hand will have a better fit with a thicker grip, whilst a smaller hand is best suited to a thinner grip. For hand (or glove) sizes 6.5–8.5, we recommend the ‘Small’ size; for 8.5–10.5, the ‘Large’ size.
