The carcass construction is particularly durable and resistant to damage and the ingress of foreign objects. The result: your tyres are versatile, lightweight and feature an attractive design. Furthermore, tyres with this technology can be used tubeless or in combination with an inner tube.
Vectran Breaker – The benchmark in puncture protection
Vectran™ is a synthetically produced high-tech fibre modelled on a natural material. Like spider silk, Vectran™ is a liquid-crystalline polymer (LCP). Vectran™ is spun from the molten liquid polymer Vectra and further processed into a multi-fibre yarn. Both spider silk and Vectran™ possess enormous tensile strength whilst being extremely lightweight. These are precisely the right properties for use as a puncture protection insert in a Continental top-of-the-range tyre. A Vectran™ breaker is lighter, more flexible and offers more effective protection against cuts than comparable nylon breakers. The Vectran™ breaker does not affect rolling resistance.

BlackChili Compound – It’s all in the mix
The performance characteristics of a tyre’s rubber compound are largely determined by three interrelated factors – static friction [grip], rolling resistance and mileage. The dilemma: if you improve one of these factors, at least one other will deteriorate as a result. A tyre with maximum grip wears out more quickly and rolls more slowly. If you make the tyre faster or more durable, its grip is reduced in turn. With our Black Chili Compound – a tread compound always based on the latest findings in polymer and raw materials research – we have provided the cycling community with a lasting solution. We tailor the compound formulation specifically to a tyre’s intended use – whether for road bikes or mountain bikes, time trials or downhill riding. For Black Chili, we refine special synthetic rubbers with tried-and-tested natural rubber to create particularly high-performance tread compounds. We then add carbon black particles to these compounds, which are themselves optimised in terms of shape and surface properties.
