Product information "Professional Truing Stand 1689"

The new version of the professional centering stand 1689 from Unior Tools - a further development resulting from cooperation with professional mechanics.

For professional use: the 1689 professional truing stand from Unior Tools

Many features have been redesigned. The base has been reinforced to improve accuracy and one-size-fits-all conical magnetic adapters have been added to stow anywhere on the base. The arms are longer to better fit rims 29" and larger, and the caliper with the sensors has been widened accordingly. Improved threads, springs and bearings provide smoother running and less frequent centering of the tool. In addition, the tool comes with high-gloss white decals on the base and arm for better background contrast and to make the tool easier to use than ever before.

Features - Unior Tools professional truing stand 1689

  • The geometry of the test probe also allows the simultaneous axial control of the wheel centering
  • The test probes are equipped with plastic attachments on the test surfaces, which do not leave any marks on the tires
  • The distance between the forks is adjusted centrally with respect to the axle length by means of the adjusting screw
  • In the same way, the position of the test probe is adjusted with respect to the wheel diameter and the distance between the test probes is adjusted with respect to the rim width
  • The clamping forks of the stand and the holder of the test probe can be quickly moved away when changing the wheel, because they are returned to the preset position by the built-in springs when inserting a new wheel, thus shortening the time of centering several wheels of the same type
  • Stronger base for improved precision
  • Longer and redesigned upright arms for more clearance for 29+ diameter wheels and increased centering accuracy
  • Wider feelers allow more clearance for 29+ wheels
  • The truing stand accommodates wider axles and works with hollow axles up to 197mm wide (including the use of adapters)
  • The widest distance between the arms is 230 mm (without using adapters)
  • New bearings on upright arm adjustment axis are spring-loaded to improve accuracy and reduce calibration frequency Reshaped probe tips for easier radial centering
  • reworked threads and springs for smoother operation
  • There are 8 mm diameter holes on the bottom for mounting to the countertop, and the distance between them is 268 mm
  • A more modern design, completely in black
  • Conical magnetic adapters for hollow axes are included - one size fits all (12, 15, and 20 mm)
  • The adapters are now magnetic and can be attached anywhere on the base
  • Features a screw for more permanent attachment to upright arms
  • A set of white glossy stickers is included that you can apply to the base and arms for enhanced background contrast (stickers are not factory applied)

Compatibility

  • For all wheels from 16 to 29+ inches in diameter, with or without a shell
  • The system is compatible with fixed clamp, quick clamp and hollow axle clamps
  • Adapters must be used to center rims with hollow axle hubs (included)
  • A pair of hollow axle adapters is suitable for all hollow axle dimensions

I have expérience the same problem as the previous comment : the centering of the wheel dépends of the width of the axle. You cannot calibrate it with the gauge as the gauge has a wider length than the 110 mm for the front wheel. You have to set the centering at every wheel you do with a New wheel. You can see that the two supports do not move the same amount when screwing the width screwing. Very disappointed. I regret my purchase too.

The truing stand looks and feels very nice. Parts are of good quality and it's very precise and easy to use (once set up correctly). However it has very poor documentation, and very little explanation how to use it and calibrate it properly. Basically one page on how to assemble it out of the box, together with a few very short youtube videos that are not particularly helpful. On top of that mine came with poorly calibrated wheel holding legs, which put the wheels off center and introduced wheel dishing error while using, depending on axle width. Since there was no documentation on this provided by Unior, I contacted their support and sent them photos and video of the issue I had. They blamed the wheel dishing error on using "cheap" wheels. I resorted to watching the ParkTool truing stand videos and resolved the problem myself, since the Unior truing stand is basically a copy of the ParkTool one. Now I feel bad, because I didn't pay the extra money to get the ParkTool one, their video library alone is worth the truing stand weight in gold.
