Komme vom Wahoo Roam, und man merkt sofort, dass Display, Funktionen und vor allem das Ökosystem bei Garmin einfach in einer anderen Liga spielen. Ich plane meine Touren jetzt direkt in Garmin Connect, ohne den Umweg über Komoot, und die Routen sind sofort auf dem 850 verfügbar. Dazu kommt die deutlich bessere Kartendarstellung. Und die ganzen Fitness-Analysen nach der Fahrt, von denen alle immer reden, machen tatsächlich auch richtig Spaß. Der Versand ging übrigens auch super schnell.
Ich war mit meinem Edge 840 jahrelang wirklich zufrieden, aber seit sich ein Freund den 1050er zugelegt hat, war der Wurm drin. Vor allem hat mich beeindruckt, wie viel flüssiger alles läuft und dass ClimbPro jetzt immer funktioniert – auch ohne geplante Route. Das ist an meinen Hausbergen ein riesiger Vorteil. Das Design sieht auch schicker aus. Der Edge 1050 war mir aber immer ein Klotz am Lenker. Ich habe ewig gewartet und war kurz davor, das größere Modell zu kaufen – aber zum Glück kam dann der Edge 850. Für mich ist er der absolute Volltreffer. Er hat die neuen Features und das Display des 1050, aber in der kompakten Größe. Der Sprung von meinem alten 840er ist gewaltig. Es fühlt sich an, als hätte ich ein Upgrade um zwei Generationen gemacht. Die Klingel ist eine nette Spielerei – mehr aber auch nicht. Ansonsten ist das für mich das perfekte Gerät. Das Warten hat sich absolut gelohnt.
Just like the other 800s, the 850 has the best combination of features and size. In a direct comparison with the 1050, it has all the same capabilities but is smaller and lighter, which for me makes it the best cycling computer. All graphics are large enough to be easily seen. The wind direction overlay works better than the Windsocken app on the Hammerhead. Climbing pro also starts now without the need for a route (finally), but Garmin's interface is much better. Groupride is indeed useful for longer rides or if you are joining a group mid-ride or just late for the start. So no need to whatsapp anyone for location. The other features like Garmin Pay and Smart nutrition alerts, may seem unnecessary at first, but once you set them up and start using them, they become an part of your training. So it is worth it to check and set all this extra functions. If you also run, Garmin is the obvious choice. I also have the scale since last year and just got the sleep index at home and have even cancelled my Training Peaks subscription, to plan everything with Connect. All top.
