Maxxis tyre power for the mountain bike

MAXXIS produces first-class tyres for road bikes, gravel bikes and cyclocross bikes. Only the mountain bike tyres from MAXXIS are even more popular. Hardly any other manufacturer manages to find such convincing compromises between the conflicting properties in tyre design: tyres for mountain bikes should not be on the heavy side but must be robust and provide good puncture protection. At the same time, they should offer excellent grip and strong traction combined with minimum rolling resistance. MAXXIS tyres such as Ardent or Highroller II are considered as the benchmark for how these opposing attributes can be reconciled in terms of tyres for the widest possible range of applications.

The first choice Maxxis mountain bike all-round tyres: Ardent and Highroller II

The MAXXIS Ardent is a genuine all-rounder thanks to the different model versions for 26, 27.5 and 29 inches. Its range of applications covers not only all-mountain and enduro but also touring and freeride use: It's a fast tyre with excellent off-road traction thanks to its high-grip tread pattern. As a tubeless tyre with standard dimensions and an additional sidewall reinforcement "EXO-Protection", the Ardent is extremely resistant. The absence of a tube not only increases puncture protection, but also reduces rolling resistance. It is hardly surprising that this version of the Ardent is one of the most highly praised MAXXIS tyres. The magazine MountainBIKE gave this MAXXIS tyre the top mark "very good" in a comparative test. MAXXIS' Highroller II, also available in numerous versions, is regarded as the slightly less easy-rolling tyre compared to the Ardent, but performs impressively on softer surfaces thanks to its excellent grip and braking traction. As a strong and robust tyre with good grip, the Highroller II is often used on the front wheel paired with the Ardent at the rear. This means that MAXXIS' top all-rounders can use their advantages where they perform best.

The highly esteemed specialists among the MAXXIS bicycle tyres

Even those who are not looking for all-rounders but for specialized mountain bike tires will benefit from the first-class characteristics of MAXXIS products. If you are after an especially light and fast tyre for the next cross country race, you should take a look at the Maxxis CrossMark. It is one of the most successful MAXXIS bike tyres and can look back on a series of very good test results in the relevant press. For dirt jumpers and urban bikers HookWorm is the ideal choice. They appreciate the combination of above-average durability and pleasingly low rolling resistance. No matter which mountain bike discipline you have in mind: Maxxis offers an excellent tyre for every wheel size, every type of biker and (almost) every trail.

Casings

SINGLE PLY CASING:
One layer of nylon wrapped from bead-to-bead. A single-ply casing conforms well to the terrain and is lighter weight.

DUAL-PLY CASING:
Two layers of casing material are used from bead-to-bead, providing additional protection and sidewall stiffness for enduro and downhill applications.

This illustration shows the general structure of a bicycle tyre.

Threads Per inch (TPI)

The number of nylon threads per inch (= 2.54 cm) of tyre fabric. Low numbers mean stable, heavy material. The weight is also reduced. Maxxis always specifies the thread number = TPI in a single casing ply - some other tyre manufacturers add up the threads of all (3 to 6) casing plies plus the puncture protection plies.

Rubber Compounds

The most important part of a tire is arguably the rubber compound within the tread. By changing the amounts of various components of the rubber formula, engineers can make two identical looking tires perform completely differently. Two visually identical tyres can therefore have completely different characteristics. It is not the number of rubber compounds on the tread that is decisive for optimum performance in the respective field of application of a tyre, but their properties. MAXXIS has been known for many years for the particularly high quality of the rubber compounds used.

TRIPLE COMPOUND
Three compounds arranged in the tire for the ultimate in no-compromise racing performance. With MAXXIS, the 3C tread is moulded from 3 different rubber compounds in one piece and is not subsequently assembled from two strips. Therefore, the treads can be moulded exactly according to the requirements of the respective tyre model, thus optimising the riding characteristics.

DUAL COMPOUND
Two compounds used within the tread of select tires to offer lower rolling resistance and increased cornering grip. The layout of the compounds is planned according to the desired properties of the tyres.

SINGLE COMPOUND
One compound throughout the tread optimized for longevity and performance.
