What is Carbotecture?
In the sensitive motorcycle and bicycle industries, MAGURA stands for the highest possible quality, solid reliability and mature components from its in-house production in Germany. In developing special materials and processes such as Carbotecture® and Carbolay®, we have realized designs and constructions that no other manufacturer can implement. We have also established an extremely effective quality assurance system at our Hülben and Hengen production and assembly sites near the original factory in Bad Urach. MAGURA brakes are light, very stable and function reliably for many years – and we realize these features with several plastics that we develop ourselves. However, Carbotecture is definitely not just a “plastic” – it is so much more!

We see ourselves as the architects of our materials – and the term Carbotecture® is a combination of the terms carbon and architecture. Here is a brief explanation of how we create our basic Carbotecture® material: First of all, a mixture of high-tech polymers and carbon or glass fibres is converted into a plastic granulate by means of several complex processes. During the processing from the granulate to the finished component, the carbon fibres are then optimally aligned to match future stress requirements. This “Carboflow” process can create any desired shape from the granulate during an injection moulding process. Carbotecture® offers major advantages compared to classic lightweight aluminium – for example, it’s 50% lighter, but it possesses the same tensile and breaking strength! Thanks to our highly developed machines and processes, Carbotecture® is indeed a dream material, from which smooth surfaces can be created in almost any complex shape – and this is also how we make our rigid yet lightweight brake masters. BMW also relies on the special properties of Carbotecture® for its motorcycles – the clutch master of the BMW GS is also made of this material, for instance.

We increase the resistance of our Carbotecture SL® material by integrating medium-length carbon fibres into the polyamides instead of short fibres – and this also reduces the weight of the material. The brake masters of our award-winning MT disc brake series are made of Carbotecture® and Carbotecture SL®.

Yet another of our materials is Carbolay®. It is produced in a fully automated procedure, during which a textile process is used to position the carbon fibres according to load. The fibres are then automatically impregnated with resin in a mould. This process enables us to produce Carbolay® lever blades in an attractive and ergonomically optimized form – and the blades also achieve perfect finger force transmission thanks to their high degree of rigidity and low weights.

Sehr geile Bremse, einmal eingebaut und richtig entlüftet, packt sie zu wie Sau. Wenn die MT5 Beläge abgefahren sind, werde ich die einteiligen MT7 Beläge ausprobieren, soll noch nen Ticken mehr Performance geben. Bin so schon zufrieden, viel besser als die Guide und die Guide R, die ich vorher hatte.

Wie schon oft beschrieben, auch bei mir große Probleme einen definierten Druckpunkt einzustellen.

Super Bremsen! Mir gefällt die Bremse von der Performance her extrem gut, das einzige was mich ein wenig stört sind die Hebel, welche für Recht große Hände und 2-Finger bremsen designed sind, aber alles in allem eine top bremse

They look great! Initially, I just mounted them directly out of the box. Just to try how they respond. They have a very weird and spongy lever feel and the braking power is low. I shorten the cable and bleed the brakes. It did not get any better! Bleed the brakes 10 times, and they still response as they did out of the box. I think I'm quite experienced in brake bleeding. Have done it many times on bikes, motorcycles and cars for many years. I learned by surfing the net that I'm not the only person having this problem with the MT5. It seems to be a common problem. I use the original Magure bleed kit. After watching several YouTube videos I have tried to bleed the brakes several times again. It seems as there are several nooks and corners inside both the calliper and the lever. You have to turn bought pieces around several times when bleeding the system and if you are lucky you manage to bleed the system properly. I have now managed to bleed the brakes. The push is now solid and the braking capacity is great. I have bleed Shimano brakes so many times. I takes around 1 to 2 minutes and the result is perfect every time. Magure you have something to learn here! Besides the very difficult bleed procedure the brake pads are very noisy, they scream like heck when you brake, never experienced any brake pads so noisy. Calling the lever: "Ergonomic, 2-finger, brake lever" is something of an approximation. The handle is huge and fits better my whole hand rather than 2 fingers. If I want to use 2 fingers the handle must be moved approx. 25-35mm away from grips to fits the index and middle finger. It is nearly twice as large as a 2-finger Shimano lever. If you don't have the time and ingenuity to bleed these brakes look for something else.

Die MT5 ist eine tolle Bremse. Lässt sich super dosieren und beißt wie doof wenn sie soll. Montage war ein Kinderspiel. Auch entlüften geht super easy. War eine Gute Anschaffung.

Wenn man mal davon absieht, dass der Bremsölbehälter am Hebel sehr leicht aufspringen und beschädigt werden kann, wenn zu viel Öl im System ist und man versucht, die Kolben zurück zu drücken, ist die Bremse doch sehr gut. Letztendlich hat es gereicht, den Deckel wieder einzurasten und er hält wieder, aber die MT4 von 2012 ist im Hinblick dessen weitaus weniger kritisch. Ansonsten gibt es nichts an der Bremse auszusetzen, Bremspower ist enorm, die Hebel liegen sehr gut in der Hand und auch die Entlüftungsschraube am Bremssattel ist wesentlich besser platziert als an MTC e MT4, bei denen die Sattelbefestigungsschraube entfernt werden mußte, um den SChlauch mit Spritze am Sattel befestigen zu können. Zudem gelang es mir auf Anhieb, die Bremse zu entlüften und der Druckpunkt erlaubt auch, den Hebel näher an den Griff zu stellen, weil der Leerweg gegenüber MT4 und MTC kürzer ist. D. h. die Hebeleinstellung hat endlich Sinn. Die Bremse ist deshalb sehr gut und entsprechend bewerte ich sie mit fünf Sternen, nicht zuletzt, weil ich selbst schuld war, dass der Deckel am Hebel aufgesprungen war. Ein Warnhinweis diesbezüglich wäre allerdings wünschenswert in der Anleitung.

Meine Hebelklemme ist nach dem Einbau gerissen. Wieso ist dieses wichtige Teil aus Kunststoff? Wenn Metall ersetzt, dann mindestens mit hochwertigem Kunststoff. Ansonsten ist diese Bremse OK, fürs Gewicht würde ich eher XT kaufen.

Started out great. Tones of modulation and the four piston caliper is fantastic. I came of once, not that bad. Had to twist my break lever back in to its place and now I have a leaking master cylinder. It says the breaks are made out of a composite material, but it's really just plastic. No I regret buying this break and switching back to Shimano.

Gute und bissige Bremse,ich bin zufrieden

Top Bremsen mit richtig Power!! Aber (!)... Sie war in Verbindung mit Magura Storm HC Scheiben (180/203mm) nicht fahrbar.. ruckelte fürchterlich vorne wie hinten auch mit Unterlegsscheiben. Die Reibfläche ist durch das Design teilweise einfach zu gering so das die Beläge unten über die Stege und ruckeln.. Erst die Trickstuff Dächle Scheiben haben sie (für mich zumindest) zu ner perfekten Bremse gemacht!! Preis / Leistung Top!!

sehr gute Verarbeitung, keine Probleme beim Montieren (Anleitung gibt es von Magura direkt auf der Homepage), Bremskraft pur und definierter Bremspunkt. Seit ca. 1000 km im Einsatz und immer noch voll zufrieden und erfüllt die Erwartungen für den Preis!

Plastic pump lever body. Works good bud looks not as durable. Scared about the threads. Calipers look fine and i like the magnets to hold te pads in place.

Brakes were delivered with long hoses and I had to shorten and bleed them. There was all accessories included for shortening, not bleeding. Bleeding was difficult and I managed to make it work out only after changing all of the oil for brakes. I broke one plastic bolt from lever side when tightening it. I only used screw driver with limited power. Plastic bolt! Come on! Braking power is good and feeling progressive. I have to get used to the feeling after totally different behavior of Hayes. Anyway, performance seems to be more than enough for me (90kg with agressive driving style). All of the bolts are suitable for T25 key which is superb for assembling.

Brilliant brakes! Lot's of instant deceleration and they look great. Only slight downside is a bit more lever travel to get to the bite point but I soon got used to that :o)

Enorme Verzögerung und gute Dosierbarkeit bei einem Gesamtgewicht von ca. 120kg (Bike+Fahrer) ggü einer SRAM Guide T, welche standardmäßig an meinem Rad verbaut war. Punktabzug gibt es für einen zu hohen Kunststoffanteil an kritischen Bereichen wie Geber, Schellen und Bremshebel. Letzteres lässt sich zwar durch ein Upgrade auf kürzere HC-Alu Hebel verändern, schlägt dann allerdings mit zusätzlichen Kosten in Höhe von fast 50€ zu Buche.

Der perfekte Anker! Und klasse zu dosieren!

Super Bremse, Schaut euch aber auch die Trail an, die wäre für meine Zwecke warascheinlich passender gewesen.

Super Bremskraft, langlebig und fein dosierter Druck möglich. Teure Bremsklötze.

The brakes functioned well. However, bleeding was quite difficult. Also, shops don't know this system well, and one mechanic broke the seals by wrongly bleeding it. Also, the magnetic pad installation is a good idea, but in practice it rather makes fitting pads more difficult. In the end, I swithced to Shimano Zee brakes, much less hassle, so much easier to bleed, and all shops have compatible parts and know how to service it.

Brutal power :) I changed them for sram, and ride them on freeride and for me, who weighs 90 kg, this power is necessary to stop safely. I recommend it to all heavier athletes who often brake too fast in order to stop in time :)

Ich habe bei meinem Speed-Pedelec einen Magura 2-Kolben durch diese bewährte 4-Kolben-Technologie ersetzt und die Steigerung der Bremsleistung ist phänomenal. Für Ihre Sicherheit sehr zu empfehlen. LG, Tom

Vorweg: die Bremse ist zusammen mit den 203er Scheiben ein Wurfanker! Aber: die Entlüftung bei der Montage kann einem den letzten Nerv rauben. Da hatten tatsächlich auf die Kollegen der Bike-Bravo Probleme ;-) Und: die original Bremsscheiben fingen bei mir an zu rubbeln. Das was ziemlich unangenehm, weshalb ich aufgrund von Tipps auf die Trickstuff-Bremsscheiben wechselte. Seitdem ist alles gut :-)

Ich fahre die Bremse nun schon seit gut 1 1/2 Jahren. Mit der Zeit habe ich so einige Schwachstellen festgestellt und empfehle deswegen lieber gleich die MT7. Die Bremshebel habe ich nach kurzer Zeit auf 1-Finger-Hebel umgebaut. Das Gefühl verbesserte sich deutlich und die Bremse wirkte auch potenter. Ein deutlicher Performance-Unterschied. Vorher wirkte sie etwas müde. Die Bremsbelege sind aufgrund ihrer Konstruktionsweise ungeeignet diese ordentlich ohne vorheriges Reindrücken der Bremskolben auszubauen. Aufgrund des oberen Hackens muss man vor dem Entfernen immer die verschmutzten Kolben reinschieben und kann erst dann die Belege entfernen. Dies ist einfach schlecht. Teilweise (bei neuen Belegen) musste ich sogar das System öffnen und Öl herauslassen, damit ich die Kolben genug hineindrücken kann. Deswegen habe ich auch auf die geschraubten Belege (4 Einzelbeläge) umgerüstet. So kann man diese, z.B. beim Reinigen der Bremse, entfernen, die Bremse reinigen und dann die gereinigten Kolben reinschieben. Weiterhin sind bei mir nach einiger Zeit die Kunststoffklemmen der Bremshebel gebrochen, trotz vorsichtigem Anziehen. Hier wurde dann auch upgegradet auf die Aluklemmen. Bedenke ich diese ganzen Punkte, hätte mich gleich der Kauf der MT7 Zeit und meine Nerven geschont. Dennoch ist es eine gute Bremse mit tollem Preis-/Leistungsverhältnis. Ich würde sie jedoch ohne die genannten Verbesserungen nicht mehr kaufen und gleich zur MT7 tendieren.
